The migrant crisis in South East Asia will be discussed at a meeting in Bangkok on Friday.

Representatives from 17 nations in the region will be joined by diplomats from the US and Switzerland as well as delegates from the UN's refugee agency, UNHCR.

Thousands of migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh are thought to be stranded at sea.

Migrants are "vulnerable at origin, in transit and at destination," Max Tunon, migration project manager for the ILO in Bangkok told Asia Business Report.

He said that laws exist to protect migrants, but in practice "it's often a different situation".
