Indonesian workers’ arrival tonight postponed due to ‘misunderstanding’

Free Malaysia Today, Malaysia, 31 May 2022 - The scheduled arrival of the first batch of plantation workers from Indonesia tonight has been postponed at the eleventh hour due to “unforeseen circumstances”, said its ambassador Hermono.

“I don’t know exactly why Jakarta’s National Agency for the Protection of Migrant Workers made this decision. There are some problems in Lombok where they are supposed to come from.

“It will be delayed until the misunderstanding is sorted out,” he told FMT.

This was supposed to have been the first batch of Indonesian workers to arrive after a halt in labour intake due to the Covid-19 pandemic. They were scheduled to arrive at 8.10pm at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Malaysiakini had earlier reported that about 160 workers from Lombok would be employed to work in local palm oil plantations following the reopening of international borders.
