Groups heave sigh of relief as migrant workers set to return

Free Malaysia Today, 29 July 2022 - A business group, a bosses group and an employment agency group have expressed relief over Indonesia’s decision to lift its temporary freeze on workers entering the country.

The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) and the Association of Employment Agencies Malaysia are also happy that both countries have been able to reach an understanding on the matter.

MICCI executive director Shaun Cheah said he was grateful that human resources minister M Saravanan had listened to the concerns raised and acted swiftly.

“We hope something like this doesn’t happen again,” he told FMT.

Cheah also commended the ministry for ironing out the kinks regarding the systems being used to recruit Indonesian workers.

“We hope that the process moving forward is smoother and not bogged down with bureaucracy as it is critical for post-pandemic recovery,” he said.
