Vacancy Research Assistant - Reintegration of Migrants in their Countries of Origin

As of October 2011 (3-year contract). The appointment is conditional on the availability of funding, expected to be confirmed for mid 2011.


Salary The net monthly salary for a full-time (30/30) contract at the lowest level will be approx. Euro 2,000. The Director of the RSCAS can propose appointment at a higher level for an assistant with exceptional qualifications and in charge of performing core research tasks. In addition, when conditions as laid down by the Statute are applicable, there are family allowances – household allowance, dependent child allowance, education allowance – and expatriation allowance (approx. 16% of salary). For contracts of at least 12 months or prolonged beyond 12 months, an amount equivalent to 16.5% of the basic salary will be paid upon termination of service as severance.

Title of project: Reintegration of Migrants in their Countries of Origin
Job description: Based on a network of partner institutions located in EU and non-EU countries, the project analyzes the factors and conditions shaping return migrants’ patterns of reintegration and contribution to development. Under the supervision of the project director, the incumbent will be fully involved in the scientific leadership and management of the project by:

- Collecting, processing and disseminating documentary and empirical
data on return migration while maintaining an inventory of all quantitative
and qualitative data;
- Organizing and managing the project’s overall scientific activities and
policy events in Europe and beyond;
- Providing scientific assistance and constructive advice to the project
director and the research team.
Qualifications: The applicant must have:
- A Ph.D. in the fields of social sciences, political sciences, or statistics;
- A demonstrated ability to process and analyze field data. Proven
familiarity with Stata or SPSS is necessary;
- Strong analytical and writing skills (please provide a list of publications);
- Worked in a multidisciplinary and/or international research team;
- Initiative, sense of responsibility, concern for quality, efficiency and
accuracy.


Languages: Ability to write, speak, and report in English to a high standard. Knowledge of other languages, particularly French, Spanish or Russian, is an asset.
