Registration for migrant workers ends this month

Illegal migrant workers have until the end of this month to register themselves or face prosecution, said Employment Department.

Illegal migrant workers have until the end of this month to register themselves or face prosecution, said Employment Department.

Until today, 1.3 million migrant workers have registered with the department, most of them are from Cambodia (600,000), followed by Myanmar (530,000) and Laos (200,000). The number also included their family members.

The registration for illegal migrant workers are available at one-stop-service center throughout the country since June. The deadline is October 31.

Employers who fail to legalize their workers will be subject to a fine of Bt10,000 to Bt100,000 per a worker. The migrant worker will also be sentenced up to five years in prison and a fine of Bt2,000 to Bt100,000.
