About seven Cambodian workers die in South Korea a year

Khmer Times, Cambodia, 24 December 2020 - Cambodian Ambassador to South Korea has confirmed about seven Cambodian migrant workers working in South Korea have died in South Korea.

Ambassador Long Dimanche said that about seven to eight Cambodian workers have died in South Korea a year due to heart attacks, cancer, work injuries and traffic accidents.

“This year, 11 Cambodia workers died in South Korea. If it is compared with Thais, a hundred of Thai workers have died. It is far different because most Cambodian workers working in South Korea are legal,” he said.

His comment comes today as Reuters reported that at least 522 Thais have died in South Korea since 2015 – 84 percent of whom were undocumented – found data from the Thai embassy in Seoul obtained via a freedom of information request.
