The Visioning Event for AP-MagNet took place in Chiang Mai on October 25-27, 2010 and it brought together 38 migration and anti-human trafficking experts and practitioners from ILO's tripartite constituents from seven countries, experts, UN agencies, International Organizations, NGOs and ILO staff working on migration and anti-human trafficking. The overall objectives of the event was to introduce the concept of communities of practice, to share experience from the ILO in regards to the existing communities in the region, to identify challenges and responses to migration and to do a joint work planning to determine the niche, identify products, services and topics for discussion for AP-MagNet and to develop a draft list of activities on three levels, short, medium and long term.
During the first day of the Visioning Event the participants got an opportunity to get to know each other better, through a sociogramming exercise where they learned that that were more than 300 years of migration and anti-human trafficking experience in the group. The participants also gained a better understanding of what a community of practice is and the utility of it.
The second day of the event focused on the thematic areas, namely migration and anti-human trafficking. The group also agreed on a niche, topics, themes, products and services for AP-MagNet.
This is a presentation that briefly reviews what was agreed on in terms of determining a niche, topics, products, services for AP-MagNet.
The most important part of the third and final day of the event was the workplanning, who will do what and when?
This is the result of the evaluation that the participants were asked to fill out after the Visioning Workshop in Chiang Mai, Thailand where the core members of AP-MagNet decided on themes, aims and workplans for the portal.
